Steps to the Scientific Method:
Ask a question: How are students performing in Chicago Public Schools (CPS) in the subject of science?
Do background research: Last year on the ACT, a national college admissions examination, 11th and 12th grade CPS students on average scored 17.6 on the science ACT (76% of high school students across the country scored higher). Even more unacceptable: only 57% of Chicago Public School seniors graduated this past spring.
Construct a hypothesis: Providing students with passionate, driven, and highly effective teachers will positively impact students' academic achievement and change their life trajectory.
Do the experiment: Use your skills and talents to become a science teacher in Chicago Public Schools and effect change! The Chicago Teaching Fellows program is seeking a select group of outstanding professionals and recent college graduates to use their science knowledge and skills to teach high school students in Chicago's most challenged and underserved schools.
Analyze the data and draw a conclusion: Research continues to prove that the single most important school-based factor on positively impacting students' academic achievement is having a highly effective teacher. Be that teacher. Join us.
