We are looking for a team member in our consulting firm who enjoys troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing office desktops, laptops, peripherals, networks, servers and proprietary systems. Your day will vary as our clients' needs, one day you're setting up new servers and user machines in a brand new office, the next day you are talking with clients and recommending new technologies in a professional office, by the end of the week you're updating the firewall and servers in a CPA's office; whatever the task you will need to use your experience and judgment to leave those systems functioning well so people can do their jobs. If you want to sit in a cubical all day, this job is not for you.
This is a fast-paced environment, and those who join the team will be expected to have a very strong personal drive to succeed, to be able to contribute independently within a close team, and to be rewarded for their effort. This particular position is ideal for the experienced systems administrator, who is ready to take advantage of their skill set in order to make a significant difference within our client's businesses.
In order to be successful in this role you will need to be able to work closely with clients including office managers, CEO's, and other end-users. This also means that sometimes you will need to stay a little late, or start a little early in order to make sure the users can do their work. This is a tough challenge, but we are willing to provide a growth path for candidates that have both the computer skills and people skills to succeed. We are a small organization so you will get daily access to the top people in the organization -- training and opportunities you wouldn't see for years in a larger organization. We also encourage each team member to develop deep skills in an area that they really enjoy, becoming the expert we can all learn from.
Responsibilities:
- Work as a consultant with our clients in the Chicago Metro area to support primarily Microsoft networks, desktops, and servers.
- Respond to customer needs in a timely and professional manner
- Resolve hardware, software, and network issues
- Manage system and network issues to resolution
- Manage new installations and migrations.
- Identify ways to improve our client's systems and infrastructure (upgrades to hardware, software, network).
Qualifications:
- Self starter requiring minimal supervision with the ability to follow through on tasks with little oversight.
- Ability to multi-task with accuracy in a fast-paced environment while maintaining mature problem solving skills.
- Strong debugging and problem resolution skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills: able to clearly explain IT concepts in non-technical terms to end users and managers
- Function in a team and independently
- Must be good listener and open to hear all aspects of a conversation. Must be open to suggestions and ready to learn as well as teach
- Non smoker preferred; Smoking and smoke breaks are not allowed during the day at office and/or clients
- Microsoft Exchange experience (2003-2010)
- Knowledge of Virtualization with VMWare and/or Xenserver
- MCP or higher
- Active Directory implementation and maintenance experience
