Three years ago I took a job out of college as an assistant to one of the most successful real estate brokers in the state. While it only paid $10 per hour it allowed me to make money while learning about real estate and gaining experience. After eight months I left that position, got my broker's license, and have been working at a Lincoln Park real estate brokerage ever since. Like many agents breaking into the business I leased apartments and grew my book of business. In recent months though the number of referrals and the demands on my time to work with buying/selling clients has driven me to begin looking to bring on someone to my team who shares my passion for real estate to work with me.
About You:
You are someone motivated and attracted to the idea of working in real estate (I watch Flip This House, it's okay if that's what gets you excited about real estate). Ideally you have some experience, but I would rather work with someone who is driven and learns quickly than an individual who knows the business and is getting sick of it. You would begin with your leasing license, but I would expect you to get your broker's license within a couple months as you'll need it to grow. After a couple weeks of shadowing me you would begin receiving as many leads as you felt comfortable with from me and I would assist you in executing them. This position like other leasing positions would be commission based, but rather than working with crappy internet and walk-in leads you would be working mostly with my past clients and their referrals. In times when I needed busy work done I would compensate you for your time at an hourly rate to be determined.
If you are looking for a job for 3-6 months to make some money and go travel Europe, this is not for you. However here is what I can offer. If you put in the hours and work well with people you will find yourself easily making $25k-$40k your first year. The following year that number will double and after 12-18 months you will find yourself, as I have, with a solid business of renters, buyers, and sellers and cross the six figure mark. Most importantly we will work as a team and I will always answer the phone when you call with questions and when you screw up, which everyone does, I will help you get through it and minimize the damage. You will be a full member of my brokerage and available to receive full health and dental benefits after a certain period as well as have the opportunity for growth in one of the fastest growing brokerages in Chicago.
