Web Developer
The Chess Site is a startup company that was established in 2010. The purpose of the site is to become one of the leaders in the chess industry. The online e-commerce was recently launched and a few other segments will be launched in the future. Web Developers are a critical part of developing these future segments, reconstructing the site, creating an innovative site, working with advertisers and marketing groups, learning about business development, and improving traffic to the site. This project is unique, interesting, and intellectually challenging. The rewards is that your work will be utilized as your portfolio. In other words, what you create under the guidelines of the founder will reflect your work ethics, innovation, capabilities, and will help your resume. A letter of recommendation will be given at the culmination of the project. In addition, certain "prices" will be given for the best developer at different stages of the project. The environment is fun but professional. If you want to work remotely, you must have full access to different methods of communication, including text, emails, smoke signals and wizard mail (just kidding about the last two). Our ideal candidates must have a CLEAR understanding/knowledge of web development. We are ideally looking for 3 candidates that are reliable, efficient, trustworthy, and deeply knowledgeable about web development. The ideal candidate has a passion to create something unique and exciting. It is not necessary to have knowledge about chess, although it is a plus. Only send your resume or cover letter!
Responsibilities
You will have hands-on responsibilities for the development, testing, and deployment of content for the website.
You will work in a team of about 3 to create the end product.
The goals are demanding and challenging so you must have a clear understanding of e-commerce and web development.
The Web Developers work closely with each other under the direction of a team leader.
The team will implement and develop new web designs and features for the site.
The team will build new functionalities that will integrate gaming capabilities, learning capabilities, and e-commerce.
Basic Qualifications
The Web Developer candidates should excel in all components of the web development skill set including; PHP, SQL, Javascript, AJAX, CSS, XHTML, Flash Action-Scripting site maintenance and troubleshooting. The ideal candidates also have to have a solid understanding of web standards, cross-browser compatibility, HTTP GET/POST & headers, dynamic content retrieval and page rendering, state management, and client/server interaction.
Knowledge of PHP
Knowledge of client-side web development experience using XHTML, CSS, Javascript
Knowledge of AJAX and javascript frameworks (ie. jQuery)
PHP, SQL, XHTML, Javascript, CSS, HTTP, XML
Database design and architecture
Knowledge of source control systems (VSS, CVS, PVCS, etc.)
Knowledge of Content Management Systems and Web Publishing
Understanding of Object Oriented Programming and Design
Knowledge of Web Development Best Practices
Preferred Qualifications
Currently looking for a unique and rewarding internship
Currently enrolled in college/university
Interested in building his/her portfolio with a project of this magnitude
Knowledge of Flash application development
Interest in the gaming industry
A passion for web development, career growth, experience, hands on experience, something unique and creative
Preferred Education
Currently pursuing a degree or graduated with a degree in web development, web design, or web engineering. If you don't have a degree but have the experience we can also consider your application.
