We are seeking an energetic, "won't stop till it's figured out" web designer as a part-time paid intern. Being a little "green" is OK, but you must have some experience putting web sites together from scratch and be prepared to show us your work. (And, no, two or three free-hosted pages showing off your family pet does NOT count! :)

This job is on-site in Lockport, IL. We are NOT looking for freelancers or companies to help us. We are looking for someone to join our team, in Lockport.

Your primary mission here would be to quickly adapt page templates using HTML/CSS/Javascript to produce customized and complete client websites based on specifications from clients, example websites, and/or our senior designer. Please do not respond unless you are comfortable making--and ultimately proving--the following claims:

? "I am comfortable with basic HTML web editing such as through DreamWeaver or similar environment. I am intimately familiar with "Code View" in my favorite web editing environment. I know most HTML tags by sight and understand the underlying properties of them generally.)

? "I know what CSS is and can restyle div borders classed as .coupon to be 1-pixel dots in #c81001. I can also completely restyle a multi-level navigation menu with only a previously-made CSS template and one hand tied behind my back."

? "I have my own copy or am familiar with cloud versions of image retouching tools like PhotoShop. 'Sharpen and artfully crop a jpg down to 250x110'--no problem!"

? "I spell wonderfully...or at least I'm dilligent enough to check and correct errors--even if not my own. (And, yes, I already spotted the one above.)"

? "I can write or at least intelligently use JavaScript snippets and functions."

? "I'm familiar with JQuery and have ready access to and experience with popular plug-ins."
Beyond these minimum capabilities, familiarity and some programming experience with server-side scripts like PHP or ASP is a plus. Ditto for FTP use and SEO concerns for business clients.

In a nutshell, if your whole bag of tricks is in building websites through popular CMS-type tools like Drupal, Joomla, or WordPress, then don't bother applying. However, coupled with your earnest and honest assertions above, familiarity with one or more of these systems could help significantly with adapting existing client sites to custom designs and possibly grow this entry-level position into something more.

This job starts at $10/hour with 20-30 hours per week (all M-F). For the right person, there is room for growth into a full-time position down the line at some point.
