Position Summary: Howard Area Leadership Academy is seeking a dynamic and passionate High School mentor who wants to create a warm and welcoming school culture that is driven by student achievement, and is committed to high expectations and high support for all students in an alternative learning environment. Works with other mentors to coordinate activities for the Mentor (YS3) program. Provides mentoring to young people referred to the program through DCFS and is active in the after-school program.

Duties and Responsibilities:
? Work with young urban adults in a sensitive, caring, but demanding way
? Maintain positive, cooperative, and mutually supportive relationships with students, parents, teachers, and administration.
? Actively build leadership in students
? Provides outreach to potential referral sources for the YS3 program.
? Assures that the young people enrolled in the YS3 program attend school on a regular basis, make reasonable academic gains, participate in the after-school program and ultimately graduate from high school, earn a GED or transition to another training or work opportunity.
? Actively recruits and networks with outside entities to maintain enrollment levels at HALA.
? Works with teachers to assure that each student makes reasonable academic gains.
? Attends meetings and staff trainings sponsored by ASN and DCFS.
? Attends staff meetings at the Alternative High School.
? Assists with other Mentor to coordinate activities of the YS3 program with the overall activities of the Alternative High School.
? Supports students with transitioning to secondary education, vocation and employment.
? Works as an effective team member with the other mentors.
? Performs other tasks as assigned by Supervisor.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
? Bachelors degree in Education, Social Work or related field preferred; experience working with out of school youth; and good interpersonal and organizational skills.
