Under general supervision, perform a wide variety of grounds maintenance duties including:
? Waters, cultivates, mows, sprays, fertilizes and trims lawns, shrubs, hedges, trees, and other plants in both landscaped and wooded areas.
? Operates hand and power equipment, including but not limited to rototillers, stump splitters, tree chippers, mowers, power sweepers, edgers, chainsaws, weed whips. Maintains and makes minor repairs to equipment, as necessary.
? Maintains, repairs, and cleans irrigation systems.
? Performs general custodial duties either seasonally or incidental to grounds keeping activities, such as cleaning drainage areas, clearing brush and leaves.
? Cleans walks and driveways, picks up paper and rubbish, performs minor asphalt repair and digs post holes and trenches as assigned.
? Assists in moving furniture, boxes and equipment.
? Performs all other related duties as assigned.
The salary for the Groundskeeper position is governed by the collective bargain agreement between Mills College and Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which requires membership in the SEIU Local 1877 within 30 days of employment. Starting salary is $20.62 per hour. The excellent benefits package includes medical/dental/vision/life/LTD/403b retirement, vacation and sick leave, and 13 paid holidays annually. Staff receives free admission to campus events, use of the pool, fitness center, and tennis courts. Tuition remission is also available after an introductory period.
