This position is located in Colorado. Relocation assistance will be provided for highly qualified candidates outside the local area

I. Position Summary:

We seek a Director of Operations for our client’s operation to provide overall leadership, management and direction. This position will report to the Vice President – COE for this business unit.

II. Supervisory Responsibilities:
Provides guidance to off-site facility electric operations leaders in Canon City and Rocky Ford with a total team of 100. This role is a member of company’s key leadership team.

III. Work Location/Travel
The primary work location is Pueblo, CO (organization’s headquarters in Rapid City, SD). Travel is estimated to be 10-15 percent (or more) amongst the two subordinate operations (Canon City, CO and Rocky Ford, CO) with quarterly trips to South Dakota.

IV. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Coordinate efforts between all staff members in order to promote a focus that’s conducive towards meeting and exceeding company-wide goals. These relationships will include, but not be limited to:
o Engineering staff,
o Labor relations staff,
o Operations Field and Shop Employees,
o Manager of Electric Operations,
o Construction Representative Supervisor,
o Construction Representatives, and
o Marketing and Energy Services Staff.

V. Essential Duties and Responsibilities (continued)
• Streamline organization between personnel and resources in order to:
o Optimize electric distribution system growth, performance, and reliability,
o Enhance successful execution of safety related activity throughout the organization,
o Meet the needs of the strategic plan, and
o Identify, develop, and implement system process and improvements and best practices of electric utilities.
• Prepare and define:
o The department strategic plan,
o The ten year forecast for distribution,
o Operations and maintenance programs for various areas of the department, and
o Annual distribution capital and operating budgets.
• Monitor and maintain compliance with:
o Capital and operating budgets,
o Construction standards,
o Company policies, procedures, and union agreements,
o Externally required regulations (EPA, OSHA, NERC, NESC, etc.), and
o Project schedules.
• Review and approve work orders, rights of way, and various permits.
• Mentor and provide guidance to BHP employees on operational matters
o Provide leadership, direction and instruction, and
o Empower employees by providing the appropriate developmental resources.
• Provide employee and supervisor feedback and coaching throughout the year; assess needs for employee training and work with appropriate corporate resources to obtain it.


VI. Qualifications:
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience that includes increasingly progressive leadership and management in the utility field. Engineering and/or operation emphasis preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or related field of study.
• Master’s degree in business or engineering is a preferred qualification.
• Knowledge of electric system construction, operations, maintenance standards, procedures and governmental regulations.
o Knowledge of Net Metering practices and an understanding of the policies that surround it in specific states.
o Knowledge of infrastructure build-out as it specifically pertains to the Utility Sector.

• Demonstrated experience with collective bargaining agreements and their application in the workplace.
• Proven leadership and interpersonal skills.
• Proven success in the development of subordinates.
• Demonstrated ability take the initiative and accept responsibility for action items.
• Demonstrated ability to make timely and appropriate decisions within the level of position expectations.
• Demonstrated ability to act as company representative, accountable for the resolution of non-generation labor issues.
• Demonstrated ability to develop, monitor and accomplish strategic goals.
• Demonstrated ability to self-direct workload and prioritize business needs.
• Possess strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to articulate, communicate and influence.
• Ability to effectively manage multiple major projects simultaneously.
• Demonstrate the ability to represent the Company in front of various stakeholder, employee groups, major customers and regulatory agencies.
• PE certification desirable.

VII. Salary and Compensation
Commensurate with the duties and responsibilities described above, our client is willing to provide a competitive base salary of $110,000 to $115,000, which is predicated on achievement of personal and corporate goals and objectives. There is also an additional 20%+ bonus opportunity for achieving targeted goals. As a senior executive, you would be eligible for the company’s stock program.
